Hello & Welcome producer on leading with curiosity, the fake panic about a small market NBA Finals, and embracing Toronto-centrism.

By any metric, there’s no reason why [Toronto] would be considered a small market. And yet, that can go all out the window simply because of perception. So, I don’t know, for as long as American exceptionalism exists I think we will always be a small market — is what it can feel like. Recess mentality.

It’s so nice to interview friends! I consider everyone I have on the podcast to be a friend after our conversations (whether they do or not is none of my business), but Jerome Cheng is a legitimate buddy. He’s also a talented producer who’s worked at MLSE (with the Raptors, Toronto FC, and Maple Leafs), on the No Dunks podcast, and now alongside William Lou and Alex Wong on their show, Hello & Welcome.

Jerome has something like a friendship aura, definitely a sparkling veneer, where no matter where you are people will gravitate toward him. I’ve met so many “important people” at airports because I’m sitting, delirious and on very little sleep, with Jerome. We talked about that.
